The inn was first mentioned in 1897. At that time, the Furman Inn was still run by Mrs Mici, Katja's grandmother, together with her husband Lojze.
Mici - Later, their son Lojze took over the management of the restaurant together with his wife Valeria, who had studied at the monastery's cooking school before the Second World War and had to prepare six local dishes for her final exam.
Valerija - She has successfully passed on this tradition to her daughter Katja Kavčič. Katja has nurtured Vipava cuisine and raised it to the level of the best restaurant in Slovenia more than a decade ago.
1964 - Everyone who ate at Lojze's in the village of Dornberk came away renewed, at least in terms of gastronomy and wines. But alongside the harmonious and refined flavours of the Vipava Valley, Katja has added something unique to the dishes - her soul.
Tomaž Kavčič took the baton in the shape of a golden spoon from his mother. Tomaž is a poet of flavours, cooking techniques and top-quality ingredients. And with his vast knowledge, he does not forget the Vipava Valley, which is always present. And Tomaž (Tomi to his friends) adds to the dishes what he inherited from his mother and grandmother, who attended the monastery's cooking school decades ago - soul.
Katja - Restaurant Pri Lojzetu has been located in Zemono Manor for more than a decade and offers unique cuisine. There is no point in listing the dishes. It is important that Tomi ensures the freshness of the ingredients according to the season and the purity of the flavours, which is self-evident. The preparation techniques vary from the completely simple and traditional to the innovative and completely original ones developed by Tomi."
The Pri Lojzetu restaurant is located in Zemono Manor (just outside the village of the same name), between Vipava and Ajdovščina.
If you are travelling on the Ljubljana - Koper motorway, turn off the motorway in Razdrto towards Nova Gorica. Follow the main road all the way to Vipava (or turn onto the expressway, which you leave immediately at the Vipava turn-off) and continue towards Ajdovščina. After about two kilometres, turn right along the path that goes up Zemono Hill.
From the Italian direction
Leave the Venice-Trieste motorway at the Villese exit. Continue on the expressway through the former border crossing Vrtojba - San Andrea all the way to Vipava, where you leave the motorway and immediately after the exit turn towards Vipava and Ajdovščina. After about two kilometres, turn right along the path that climbs Zemono Hill.
The wine list is based on local wines. We cover all wine-growing areas of Slovenia, focusing on wines from the Vipava Valley, Goriška Brda and Karst.
Of course, we also offer a wider selection with a focus on sparkling wines: cava, spumante, franciacorta, champagne ..
Our aim is to please you, which is why we do not have standard or pre-made wedding menus. We want to get to know you, listen to you and offer you what you will be most satisfied with in one of the most beautiful gardens. Each event is uniquely tailored to your needs.
We are also happy to serve you outside our restaurant and can arrange a banquet that combines all the pleasant features of our cuisine and the chosen ambience.
"The restaurant Pri Lojzetu is fatally linked to the Slow Food movement.
Indigenous cuisine with indigenous ingredients began to be nurtured in Dornberk long before that, when Carlo Petrini founded this worldwide movement in Paris in 1987. So it was more than logical that in December 1995, the founding dinner of the Slovenian Slow Food movement took place at their place.
Katja and Tomaž have learnt a lot from Slow Food and have given a lot to the movement. Today's cuisine at Pri Lojzetu may no longer be very basic Slow Food, but it still follows the traditions of the movement. Seasonal ingredients and dishes, great and fresh ingredients ..."
