Today, discarded food is one of the major global challenges, which carries with it a high financial, ethical and environmental price. We throw away huge amounts of unused, expired or even fresh food, because in developed countries we always have fresh and cheap food at our fingertips.
This year (April 24) we celebrated the Slovenian Day without food waste for the third time. With it, we want to encourage every individual to reduce and prevent the creation of wasted food and to present the many possibilities of using food products that often remain unused. These are also the goals of our long-term project Hrana ni za tjavendan, which we implement together with the Ecoschool program.
Anyone who is committed to reducing the burden on our planet can join the initiative, regardless of whether it is an individual, a foundation, a company or another organization. By taking effective action, we can become an example and inspiration for people around the world.
The Slovenian Day without Food Waste initiative is represented by three commitments, each of which will contribute to reducing the amount of wasted food and creating a better world.
By joining the initiative, you undertake to:
- You will handle the food you buy, store and consume responsibly, thoughtfully and prudently.
2. You will make sure that as little food as possible, which is still edible and can still be used, ends up in the trash cans.
3. You will also inform and encourage family, friends, classmates, colleagues and others who can contribute to the goal of the initiative to reduce the amount of wasted food.
Thank you for creating a better world together with us!
